New York DJ Identity

Sambarella has been making New Yorkers dance for more than a decade as a professional DJ. In 2008, Sambarella was featured in New York Magazine and on LX-TV. The New York Post voted Sambarella Best DJ of NYC Latin lounges. The symbol is a fusion of Warhol-style pop art (New York),  Banksy-style stencil graffiti (Queens, NY) and the El Salvador flag (birthplace of Sambarella). The gold record over her head deifies her as the ‘madonna of turntables’ (referencing her strong Latin background through early religious iconography). The font represents the gritty aspects of the El Salvador revolution from which she escaped many years ago. (see fig 1 below)

Gruv Gallery Show Poster

Sambarella hosts a show called the Gruv Gallery on Viva Radio. Viva Radio is an eclectic, Brooklyn, New York-based Internet radio station. Music programming is drawn from a roster of contributors known for their passion and depth of music knowledge. Viva is the official in-store music and audio network for American Apparel stores and plays live in over 160 of its retail locations worldwide. The show poster features a macro shot of a record on a turntable and highlights the grooves in the album. The stylus/arm is the Chrysler Building, a well-known symbol of New York City.
