PITCHING TV SHOWS TO NETWORKS

PITCHING TELEVISION NETWORKS
Melon regularly works with Henry Less Productions in Toronto, developing pitches for network television shows. The pitch documents illustrate, among other things, show concept, structure, target audience and production scope. They are aimed at time-starved Canadian and American network executives who are constantly inundated with show concepts. The cover for the pitch document “Emily Ever After”‘ features the host, Emily, holding a shoe. The Cinderella association underscores the show’s partial positioning as a ‘transformation’ show, using real people who go from fashion-challenged to fashion-empowered.

EMILY EVER AFTER
This page introduces the host of the show. It contains a brief bio of Emily and her background in fashion. The photos were shot at various fashion boutiques in Toronto, showing potential episode locations and illustrating sample episode scripts. The show is shot with 16:9 aspect ratio (letterbox format). The horizontal pages and overall document dimension underscores the letterbox theme. When open, the document is 8.5″ high X 28” wide, presenting an unusual, memorable and visually dramatic pitch.

PARIS PARTIES
Paris Parties is a concept for a unique series (Henry Less Productions) where home cooking and entertaining are dropped mercilessly into the context of real life. Staged like a French movie (think Amélie or Babette’s Feast), Paris Parties is story-driven, with the host facing obstacles at every turn. The title design/wordmark is a metaphor for ‘turning the town upside down’. The inverted Eiffel Tower becomes a champagne glass, embodying the spirit of the show.
